High Tea Fundraiser to support breast cancer research
Jolene Patuawa-Tuilave has inspired another event to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Trust.
Jules Bly will host a fundraising high tea in memory of Jolene, with all proceeds going to towards the cause.
Ms Bly, a friend of Jolene's sister Leigh, said she felt "completely helpless" about Jolene's illness and death.
"I think a lot of people feel that way. I thought 'There's got to be something that I can do', so what I decided to do was hold a high tea in my garden in her honour, to raise money for breast cancer research."
Last year Ms Bly organised a high tea for 40 people at short notice, raising $800. This year, she hopes to attract 120 people and raise $2500, and has been overwhelmed by the support of the community.
The event will include a spring preview of Molly May's vintage inspired fashions, and raffles including a night for two at the Casa Del Mar Boutique Bed & Breakfast.
Ms Bly said she chose the trust as the benefiting charity as she hoped the money raised could help many people.
"On my own I can't do much, but together we can all do something. If I do one little thing it doesn't do much, but if we all do one thing together (it), adds up to a lot.
"That is the Breast Cancer Research Trust slogan - together we will find a cure."
- Jules Bly High Tea will be held at 38 Kahira Cres, Papamoa Beach, from 3-5pm on Saturday October 29. Minimum donation $20, tickets can be brought at La De Da Boutique, 48 1st Ave, Tauranga or Hula, 198 Mt Maunganui Rd.
