Glassons Unveils The World’s First Shop Dedicated To Finding A Cure For Breast Cancer

The country’s top designers again unleash their creativity to help fight this deadly disease.

On Thursday 22nd September 2011, Glassons opened ‘Cure Shop’: dedicated concession stores in all Glassons retail outlets throughout the country and online at glassons.com, stocking products designed by seven of the country’s leading fashion designer brands, with proceeds going to help find a cure for breast cancer in New Zealand.

What started as a creative fashion collaboration with the Breast Cancer Research Trust and Karen Walker back in 2004 has turned into a full-scale shop, dedicated to selling products to raise money to fight this deadly disease.

This year’s designers include Karen Walker, Zambesi, Twenty-Seven Names, Ruby, Trelise Cooper, Cybele and Huffer.

As at January 2012, stock is still available in selected Glassons stores nationwide or shop online at www.glassons.com

For the first time the designers have created their own products for the Cure Shop.  These products vary in price and style, but include summer favourites like inflatable beach chairs, swimwear, a tote bag, head scarves, wide-brim hats and more.

What the designers say:

Ruby
I wanted to keep my design in line with my summer collection for Ruby which was inspired by a european vacation; playful, quirky, and with bright pops of colour.

Trelise Cooper
My design is inspired by a 50s swimsuit I have in my archive collection.  It reminds me of an iconic Marilyn Munroe photo.

Twenty-Seven Names
Mon Coeur, the phrase we chose, is a French term of endearment, directly translating to "my heart".  For us, Mon Coeur suggests a combination of love and strength, two things that are so important to individuals and families affected by breast cancer.

Zambesi
The inspiration for the design came from a delicate French painted  lace that has been in our archive for several years.  We were fascinated with the intricate detail and re-arranged them to create an obscure "Z" on our T-shirt.  The candle represents hope for the future.

Huffer
This year's T-Shirt design came about like this:  we are very serious about feeling rosey.  With this in mind we have designed a team mascot T-Shirt to encourage this sort of state of mind.

Karen Walker
We wanted a print that was innocent and lovable and that would put smiles on people's faces.

Cybele
My design this year came directly from my summer collection inspiration.  I was looking in part at the school of Futurist painting and the way those artists used line and form to visually describe movement.  the motif looks to me like a sci-fi butterfly - a symbol of freedom from Breast Cancer that is in our future once the cure is found.
